I like comedy-romances, even ones filled with screwball comedy and dollops of slapstick. Unfortunately, this isn't really a romance (the heroine/narrator has several not-quite Mr. Rights dancing around her, and the story ends with one of them returning after having left in a previous book to "find himself"), and the humor has that desperately forced jocularity of somebody high on Nitrous Oxide.Far as I can tell, Gladdie Burger is the plus-sized (as she repeatedly tells us) female version of a *schlamazel* - somebody who lives with perpetual bad luck, constantly resulting in meant-to-be-comical disaster. In the first three chapters of this book, she's attacked by "giant" spiders while trying to open a suitcase she's left in her Grandma's garage, involved in a car crash that takes out her favorite coffee place, thrown off a balcony by one of her Not-Quite Mr. Rights after an oxygen tank explosion at an old mans's poker game, and impales her foot on a nail while walking in socks to confront a construction crew rebuilding yet another Not-Quite Mr. Right's house!
Despite the fact that she should come with her own FEMA Warning, Gladdie is clearly desperately desired by the local Sheriff (who claims he wants a serious relationship with her despite the fact he's the local skirt-chaser) and his new Detective - who rejoices in the name of "Remington Cumberbatch"! Oh, and lest we forget the guy with the house being remodeled? They were headed towards a committed relationship before Something Happened and he left to Find Himself....
Every romance (which this series is being billed as) has strong wish-fulfillment elements to it. Most of the time, that's fine - we all want to think our innocence hiding our sizzling sexuality is just waiting for The One to bring it out in us. But this book, which is the third in a series, misses the mark for me in just about every imaginable way - the comedy is too forced (unlike N.M. Silber, who does physical humor and screwball with charm and style), the insecure-but-desirable heroine is a pain, and the characters revolving around her seem like they all belong in a madhouse.

These books remind me of the Stephanie Plum books only funnier. I wish that there were more written because I can't wait to see what happens with all the blossoming love stories.
I liked this more than I thought I would. As a free book, I don't often expect a lot, but this one was well worth reading. It would have been worth $.99 or so. I liked the premise and there weren't too many typos, etc.
In this third installment of the matchmaker series, the story rolls along at a decent clip. A new character joins the cast, as well as a new mystery to solve by our heroine. Wit, charm, and tension runs wild. Definitely a solid choice to read, but as each book can stand alone.... it is better if read in order as the series goes. I highly recommend this series!!!
This is a shake your head and laugh out loud book. While I thoroughly enjoyed it I am starting to get the same feeling that I get when reading Janet Evanovich. The deadly formula. It's working now but I hope the author can keep it from getting old. She did end the book in a way that leaves you dangling and wondering how things are going to be resolved in the next book of the series.
Murder has it out for Gladie. It just follows her everywhere but she's committed to matchmaking. The side characters are hysterical and give this town a quirky and loveable vibe. With one guy temporarily gone you'd think Spencer would step up but Remington and his nerdiness showed up. What happened to Holden anyway? This series could go on forever with silly shenanigans and a random murder.
The newest matchmaker working with her Grandmother to find the right love match for everyone. She manages to find more trouble and murder than matches and always has sexy hunky men after her. Grab yourself a glass of wine or whatever you prefer and get lost in the crazy antics of Glady and her equally crazy sidekicks. You will not want to put this book down until you have finished it. I would suggest reading them in order to gain a full appreciation of the characters and the relationships. This is the third book in the series and can't wait for the next! Elise Sax keeps you on the edge of your seat with each book. If you like suspense, murder and romance then you will love the Matchmaker Series! What's not to like!!
I really adore this series! Gladdie keeps me laughing. The supporting characters are really amusing too. I had assumed from the last book that Gladdie would be with Spencer in this book, but nothing is ever as simple as what you assume with Gladdie. I would love to say more on that subject, but it would spoil it. All I can say is the ending floored me and was a little deeper than I expected. I hope the next book arrives quickly!
